Doing Their Own Stunts Since 1992
Greetings Stuntfans - Wow! Good things to report. At press time, Stuntman Steve Sanderson and Fearless Freddy Freedom are luxuriating in a swanky hotel overlooking the Fox Studios Production lot in sunny Los Angeles, CA.
According to Freddy the hotel stands on the location where the chariot race for the film Ben Hur, starring Charlton Heston, was filmed.
As some of you may not know Charlton Heston, the former president of the National Rifle Association, passed away last week. Rumor has it they are still trying to "pry his rifle out of his cold dead hands." Better a rifle than the tablets from the Ten Commandments, don't you think? I hope no one thinks were are being disrespectful, here. If I had made a statement like Heston did, in front of his adoring NRA constituents, I would hope that someone made a crack about it after I ran my last chariot race. Perhaps he even had a sound chip inserted into his hands which would be activated, postmortem, in the instance that someone DID try to pry that rifle out of his hands. Yep ... Sam or Quincy would start working on his hands, frozen with rigor mortis, the chip would be activated and then you would hear Mr. Heston growling, "Get your hands off me, you filthy APE!"
Okay, that's enough of that ...
Steve and Freddy are enjoying these luxurious accommodations as they prepare, along with the Young at Heart Chorus, for appearances on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, on April 16th and Ellen, the daytime talk show hosted by Ellen Degeneres, April 17th. These appearances are to promote the upcoming Fox Searchlight film Young@Heart. On Leno, the band will be visible as they will play on risers behind the chorus. Steve is hoping to dance with Ellen. In addition to these two events, Steve and Freddy have a gig at Taix 321 Lounge on Sunset Blvd on the 16th. Rounding out the rhthym section will be "musical Houdini" Ken Mauiri on bass and Billy Arnold on drums. The next evening, April 17th, the Young @ Heart Chorus will appear at the Wilshire Theater in lovely Beverly Hills. Exciting Times Folks!
Steve and Freddy appeared on WTCC 90.7 Saturday April 12th on Land of Plenty, a Valley Independent Artists affiliated program hosted by James Fiore of the band Opel.
There were interviews and live music. Steve and Freddy played, Silver City, Halcyon Days and a new composition D and E. I was laughing too hard at Freddy's crack that "Underground" was a game he used to play with his sister, to remember what the last tune they played was, I guess I should have written it down. A recording of the show is forthcoming. Somehow the CD James made of the show did not come out. He is going to request a copy of the show from the Department of Homeland Security, after they scrutinize it for nefarious content,of course. Content such as a character hiding behind the moniker, "Freedom" and an obviously "code infested" weather report read by Steve, must be reviewed. Reports from the general public, out there in radio land said that the music sounded "really good". The Drunk Stuntmen song "Garden Gate" is appearing on an disc to be released by Valley Independent Artists to benefit the resurrection of Flywheel, in Easthampton, MA.
Upcoming Drunk Stuntmen shows include a triumphant return to Church, 69 Kilarnock St. in Boston on April 24th. The following night the Stuntmen will be playing at the Iron Horse, 21 Center St. in Northampton, MA. Both performances are CD release parties and your opportunity to get your copy of the Drunk Stuntmen's latest studio effort State Fair. The album is scheduled for national distribution through Select-o-Hits, May 20th, where State Fair will be available online as well as Barnes and Noble.
Well kids, that's all I got. In the meantime check out the website Drunkstuntmen.com and myspace.com/drunkstuntmen for updates on band information and tour dates. It is suggested that you get a sponsor, oh uh wait...It is suggested that you check these sites on a regular basis because, these days, things seem to be happening very quickly with little notice.
