CD Release Party This Weekend

* 3/29/08 Rt. 63 Roadhouse, Millers Falls, MA

State Fair CD release Party!

Hello Stuntfans -

Franconia, NH - The Stuntvan careened through the twisting roads of the White Mountains finally descending upon a small village. The first thing I noticed is everybody has Thule carriers on top of their cars. The next thing I noticed are the banners. Those free banners which are printed up for you by the alcohol purveyors so tavern owners can entice customers to come in and leave a little jingle before they head back to the mountains. The banner read, "Franconia, NH! Home of Olympic Silver Medalist Bode Miller."

"Bode Miller?! Didn't he choke in the 2006 games?" I queried.

"Yeah, but don't let the locals hear you ask that question." One of the Stunties replied.

We had arrived at the Dutch Treat, the first stop for the 2007 State Fair Tour. It was crowded when we entered the tavern, after all it was St. Paddy's Day.

Sigmund Freud once said of the Irish, "This is one race of people for whom psychoanalysis is of no use whatsoever." I can't testify to Dr. Freud's assessment as accurate, being a descendant of the the Emerald Isle, myself. But, we Irish do celebrate a religious holiday feasting the Saint who rid Ireland of snakes. Just that thought alone is liable to give you a lip for the pint. What better reason to knock back a few cold ones and celebrate the increasingly longer periods of daylight on a bitter cold Monday night?

The ride from the Valley to the White Mountains was pretty uneventful other than Bow Bow suggesting that Fearless Freddy Freedom should get a little toy train set running around the brim of his Pork Pie hat, which was later named the Pork Pie Choo Choo Hat, as the evening progressed.

Once situated inside the Dutch Treat, I knew we were someplace out of the ordinary when I witnessed Linda, who was working the door, take a personal check for the cover charge. Then she gave refunds to some people who were leaving before the music started. Wankers!

"I can't charge them if they don't hear any music." I wonder what some of the great impresarios of our time like Bill Graham, would say to that, Linda?

Out of the blue, I hear a very distinctive clang of glass against metal followed by a familiar voice shouting "Fuck off!" as Freddy's glass slide fell off of the amplifier and hit his mic stand. Fortunately that did not prevent the boys from ripping out "Silver City" later in the evening.

Mojo Music Studio was on hand to provide sound as well as recording the show on 24 tracks, for a future broadcast on Mojo Music Radio. The sound system they provided was intense. The sub woofers absolutely vibrated the room. The framed album covers on the walls were rattling and the ceiling fan was struggling to cut an arc through the sound waves as Bow Bow tuned up and Dave Durst did his drum sound check.

The set featured many of the tunes from the New Album State Fair. In Honor of St. Paddy's Day, the Stuntmen performed The Dubliners' "Dirty Old Town," a tune later covered by the Pogues. The highlight of the first set was a revival of the tune, Mudd, from the Stuntmen's second album, More Bad News.

You never know what you are going to get when you are doing the live music thing in a crowded house. Recently, Charms was seen trying to avoid getting slapped in the face with an unrestrained flapping dreadlock from a nearby "dancer". It appeared that contact was made at one point as a cloud of greenish brown patchouli funk was released into the atmosphere, at the point of impact.

There was dancing at the Dutch Treat. I must also mention that there was a Drunken Stunt. The stunt was provided by a lass who was dancing a kind of loping rhythmic stagger. Unfortunately, her night ended early as she fell backwards off of the handicapped ramp which also functioned as the smoking area. The official word from the Dutch treat folks is that she was "Okay, but she'll be hurtin' tomorrow."

Highlights of the second set included the opener, Roger Miller's, King of the Road. There was also a upbeat tempo version of "Two Good Wheels."

The Stuntmen will partnering once again with the Mojo Music folks playing an outdoor show up in the Franconia area in the summertime. The date is yet to be announced. It is a good thing we are heading back up to the White Mountains, because we have some unfinished business. We never made it to the farm with the Fainting Goats. We will see the fainting goats, Franconia, oh yes we will.

This weekend the Rt. 63 Roadhouse is celebrating their Fifth Anniversary! The Drunk Stuntmen will be on hand to honor the occasion. The show is scheduled for Saturday March 29. This show will be your first opportunity to get your hands on the much anticipated album, State Fair. Okay, Roadhouse peeps, it's been two months since the Stuntmen Played their "best show ever" in that room. Come out, show the love, bring your friends, bring people you don't like, they can hang with some one else when they get there.

Speaking of the "Best Show Ever!" You can download 12.31.07, Rt. 63 Roadhouse recording at archive.org.

Freddy Freedom and Stuntman Steve are going to be heading out West with the Young@Heart Chorus in mid April. There, they will be performing on the Ellen Degeneres Show and the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. There is also a performance schedule for the Wilshire Theater.

In addition to their appearance at the Rt. 63 Roadhouse THIS WEEKEND...(Am I being redundant?) There are three other CD Release parties on the upcoming schedule. The First being in NYC, at the Rodeo Bar, April 4. Then there will be the triumphant return to Church in Boston on Thursday April 24, and then the Northampton release party the following night, April 25, at the Iron Horse Music Hall.

Steve and Freddy will be appearing live on Land of Plenty a Valley Independent Artists sponsored radio show on 90.7 FM, WTCC on April 12.

The show hosted by James Fiore, of Opel, plays original music from the Pioneer Valley. The show airs between 8 and 10 PM. It can also be heard in streaming format on the internet at www.wtccfm.org.

Remember you can purchase any of the items in the Drunk Stuntmen catalog at Drunkstuntmen.com. The real hot items these days are of course, State Fair and the Second Edition of the Drunk Stuntmen/Young@Heart Back to Back.

Spread the word, Tape our shows, play them for your impressionable younger siblings and in-laws. Play the DVD for your parents and make sure you give them some kleenex. Take them to the Young@Heart Movie next month and tell them you "know those two guys in the band." Be the torch bearers carrying the message of righteous and honest music. Don't keep it a secret!

Now, that my friends, would be...Doing Your Own Stunts.
