Greetings Stuntfans - Not Much to tell this week other than Steve and Freddy are in Irie Land. No, not Jamaica, they are in Dublin, Ireland with the Young at Heart Chorus who are performing their Road to Nowhere show.
There was a good turnout at the Rodeo Bar and Grill on Saturday October 6th. Kudos go out to Rodeo Mike and his Krewe for showing up. Props, again, go out to Rodeo Mike and to everyone else in the audience who made intelligent requests for original music. You did not draw the Wrath of Bow Bow who wanted to dispense some justice when an audience member was trying to make an unintelligible request, WHILE he was playing.
“Here we are trying to do some good, original music, and this guy interrupts me while I’m playing, to request a song by some Canadian band that sounds similar to us. Just cause they play similar music that doesn’t mean we are about to play one of their songs.” Bow Bow also pondered doing some anti-social things to the “first guy who ever went to a show other than Lynyrd Skynyrd and requested Freebird.”
Steve commented during the show that if the audience is good and listens to their music they will be more than happy to play some Waylon and some Johnny Cash.
But alas, while there were people there to see the Stuntmen, how could we forget we were in New York City?
Overheard at the Bar -
Girl: You know you are standing on my foot, right?
Neanderthal: You think I give a F*CK?!
Another Custie - “He’s wearing a f*cking Boston hat
Steve and Freddy met Lucifer outside the venue. The Prince of Darkness appeared to them as Jacob from California, although he’s not really from California. I pondered making a deal for some guitar chops and fluency in 5 languages in exchange for a 50 year lease on my soul, but I remembered what happened to Robert Johnson. Not to mention that awful movie Crossroads featuring Ralph Macchio and Steve Vai. Yikes! Best not be making deals with Jacob from Cali.
Customer to Freddy -
“I went to Town Hall earlier and saw David Byrne doing a thing about bicycling in New York City.”
Freddy - “I played at Town Hall earlier with David Byrne and the Young At Heart Chorus. Did you ride your bike here?”
Steve recently spent some quality time at the Rte. 63 Roadhouse in Millers Falls where he happily discovered that their newly renovated kitchen was open.
Steve said, “I was expecting it to be good, but was blown away at how great
it turned out to be. They’re using as many local ingredients as possible.
They do a panini and a calzone with dough from S.deerfield. I mean this
is really good. There are vegetarian options and Carol does all the
cooking herself so you know it's full of love.”
You can check out the wonderful food if you go to the roadhouse on October 19th to check out Ray Mason and Angry Johnny and the Killbillies.
Don’t forget on the 20th and 21st, The Stuntmen are playing the Hyland Brewery and Orchards Octoberfest. Bring the kids! There is a Petting Zoo, Hayrides, Apple and Pumpkin picking. There will be food and finely crafted Ales, Stouts and Lagers from the Brewmeisters Tim Daley and Todd Sullivan.
October 27th….Halloween Party…Iron Horse…Be There…in Costume.
Northampton is a special Place during Halloween. Anything can happen. In the past we have witnessed groups of roving Smithies clad only in their bras and panties scaring the “Straights”
Remember when a disembodied pig’s heart was found on the sidewalk on Market Street and had to be taken away in an Ambulance? The Stuntmen had nothing to do with that. They were still Soup at the time.
Then there was the Stuntmen Halloween party at the Iron Horse where our favorite Vegan Eric Nelson was being taunted by a local Lawyer, who had successfully represented him in a landlord/tenant case. She was dressed as Lizzie Borden complete with an axe to which was attached a fresh lamb chop. “I can’t believe she kept shaking that friggin’ piece of carnage in my face.” I got an email from Dank Frank saying he was going to come to the show. He said he might be in drag. I hope he shaves if he does that...We’re gonna need more wax!
What more can be said. Come to the Show. It is going to be GREAT. It is the band's 15th Anniversary. The Young at Heart and Drunk Stuntmen DVD "Back To Back" will be released for sale to the public that night. Rumor has it that both Jerrys are going to be reunited and working the door at the show.
A new venue has been added to the Stuntmen Roster. On November 2, they will be playing at Joe Bomber’s in Torrington, CT.
There will be another opportunity to check out the fine food at the Rt. 63 Roadhouse on Sauturday November 24, 2007. You probably won’t hear any Arlo Guthrie that night, but it is a good place to hang and enjoy the weekend after Thanksgiving.
The working title for the new recording is State Fair. Emails are coming in asking about the album and upcoming tours. Rosie from Ohio wants to know if the Stuntmen are coming to the Cleveland area, home of the Rock and Roll Hall of fame? If you want the Stuntmen to come to your town, give us a shout perhaps we will work it out. Be specific when you request that we play in Springfield. Otherwise you might have to cross the Memorial Bridge and see us in Shelbyville.
Now, make like Jackie Chan and Do Your Own Stunts!
